Here are listed answers to some common questions. You might want to check out WHMCS FAQ too if you are using WHMCS.

Can I run 2 servers simultaneously for redundancy?

We permit usage of single license on two servers if second server is used as live backup only (meaning it is not in production use).

But practically, there usually is no need for setup like this. If/when disaster strikes, human intervention is always required and installation and restoration can be done very quickly, if you have backups. And there is PUBLIC mode to make anonymous access to RADIUS possible and reduce downtime.

Making backups of database is only thing of utmost importance.

There is "Program not verified" error and clients fail to authenticate

Server running BlissRADIUS Embedded must permit HTTP requests to api.bulbsoft.com (TCP port 80) once every week so license can be verified by our server. This is security feature and is required even for demo setups. You can check if there are network problems by pinging api.bulbsoft.com from server running BlissRADIUS Embedded.

There is very rare chance that problem persist even with network access enabled at your end. You should contact us immediately in that case.

How can I frame IP address to client?

You can do it by setting Framed IP service option. If you leave it unset, default value can be used from configuration elsewhere.

• NAS can have own NAS Framed IP pool set in Embedded admin area NAS settings page. It will be used on all clients connecting from that NAS if their IP is not explicitly set by service settings.

• If service and NAS don't set IP, global Framed IP pool value will be used (configured in Config->Framed IP in web admin area).

• Finally, if RADIUS don't assign IP during authentication at all, NAS itself (as a router device) will decide what to do, which is usually assigning some address from local pool. In this case there is no benefit of central IP management.

So, there are 4 steps ordered by priority: product/service Framed IP > NAS Framed IP > global Framed IP > NAS router

Can I run program as non-root user?

Of course. But you have to take care of some details to ensure proper functioning:

• BlissRADIUS Embedded must have complete ownership/write privileges on installation folder. All files and subfolders within it must be writable. If you are changing permissions on existing installation take care to change on hidden files also, as BlissRADIUS Embedded uses them for various purposes during runtime. Only installation folder is used to store program files, including database files in case of SQLite backend, no files outside of it are affected.

• RADIUS protocol requires incoming UDP ports 1812/1813, outgoing UDP 3799/1700 and TCP port 9071 for web access/API must be usable to program. Some operating systems limit access to some port ranges depending on user privileges, you must assure they are sufficient. Port numbers listed are default values, they may differ depending on your configuration.

• Auto starting of programs during boot must be configured to run BlissRADIUS Embedded by proper user. Eg. just adding /blissembed/blissembed start line to /etc/rc.local file on Linux will run program as root. You must specify correct command line to switch user.
